This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a recognised qualification in counselling skills at Level 2 and want to take the next step in training to become a counsellor.

The course focuses on counselling theory, ethics and mental health and prepares students to work as a professional counsellor in an agency setting.

Working with clients does not normally take place until training at Level 4.

This qualification does not lead to employment, though it is designed as a practitioner training for professional counselling qualifications and could lead to employment in a related field.

Students who pass the course can progress to the next level of counselling training, which is the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

Through teaching and practical exercises, you will learn more about the field of counselling theory which will help you to decide whether you would like to pursue further training to Level 4.

It is not necessary for students to be in personal therapy to be on this course. This course is supported by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB). Read more about the course here.
